Working together, line by line
I work with writers across genres—poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction—to shape, refine, and strengthen their work with care and precision. Whether you’re developing early drafts or preparing a manuscript for submission, my approach is both rigorous and collaborative, grounded in close reading, thoughtful feedback, and a deep respect for voice.
My goal is not to impose a vision, but to help you more fully realize your own, to bring your work into sharper clarity, cohesion, and resonance.
My Approach
Editing, for me, is a form of attention.
Each project begins with a close, careful read—listening for what the work is doing, where it’s reaching, and where it wants to go further. From there, I offer feedback that is both honest and constructive, balancing big-picture insight with line-level precision.
I work collaboratively and flexibly, tailoring each engagement to the needs of the manuscript and the writer. Some projects call for structural guidance and developmental support; others need refinement, clarity, and polish. Many move through both.
Across all work, I prioritize:
preserving the integrity of your voice
strengthening coherence, structure, and flow
deepening clarity, resonance, and impact
Editing Services
What to Expect
Each project is quoted individually based on scope, length, and level of edit. Most collaborations include:
A single, close read of the manuscript
Marginal comments (when applicable)
A detailed editorial letter (for assessments and developmental work)
Feedback is typically delivered at the end of the agreed timeline, though section-based edits can be arranged in advance.
If additional rounds of editing feel necessary, I’m always open to continuing the collaboration.
-
A big-picture evaluation of your manuscript. I provide a detailed editorial letter addressing structure, pacing, coherence, and overall craft, along with recommendations for revision and next steps.
-
In-depth feedback focused on strengthening the core of your work. This may include structure, organization, narrative or thematic development, pacing, and clarity of intent. For poetry, this also includes attention to sequence, form, and the relationships between individual pieces.
-
A close, line-level edit to refine clarity and consistency. I correct grammar, punctuation, and usage while addressing repetition, tone, and flow. Edits follow the Chicago Manual of Style (unless otherwise specified), with careful attention to preserving your voice.
-
A final polish before submission or publication. This includes correcting typographical errors and ensuring consistency in formatting and presentation.
